Rembrant 9th Jan 2015, 3:14 AM edit delete reply
Yeah, this just makes Shai look good. Wish he'd tell his father off, but well, I guess he figures it's not his business, it's theirs. And what a bad excuse from Koutack, least he could do is talk. He's really not making himself look good.

And good for Serid telling that to Sicha. Now I suspect her bubbly personality's gone out the window from this point on, I ca see her being a total slag from here on out to the group, or at least towards Serid and Kinar.
Dreamfox 9th Jan 2015, 5:52 AM edit delete reply
Think about it. Yes, Koutack could have done a lot of things here, but what does he do`?
He threatens Serid a little and leaves.
Why?
Serid justgot his daughter out of a feral state were a druid and a mage could barely hold her by hugging, kissing and telling her he would protect her. That Kinar came out so quickly is probably the best proof that Kinar deelpy loves Serid. He might even have realired whay she came back from all that Druid training physically exhausted.

And Serid's reaction to Sicha's outburst as well as him careing enough to comfort Kinar out of her state after she bit him gives him a good idea how much Serid loves his daughter.

It's obvious he does not approve of their relationship. Completely understandable with his history and what he lost to the Horde. But he also wants Kinar to be happy. Espcially as it's been indicated that he was the one to infect her with the Worgen curse which was the reason she seemingly lost her husband and child.

So, yes. Koutack has very mixed feeling aboiut this.

Well, this is just me coming from everything we've seen. Nobody knows how Koutack will react in the future, except the writer of course. He could be kind and supportive, he could be a nightmare-in-law, he could be middle of the road. I'm just reacting to what I see, that's all.

I think this what was going on in Sred's mind.

Serid(mind): C'mon what are you waiting for. I am not afraid to face you old man.
Koutack: We're in neutral territory, I can't do shit...... yet.
Shaidan: He's trying to scare you
Serid: He succeeded(then in mind)shit.shit. he's gonna kill me.What is he gonna do.
Then pictures his head on the wall and Koutack laughing evily.
Serid(mind): I am screwed

I love Serid's face on the last panel!! It is so PERFECT! And I just fell in love with Koutack's carácter: he really lives up to his fame :3 And I agree with you, expecting a beating and not knowing when or where it'll take place is just so stressing for the mind that it eventually wears you down without further notice... I don't get it...ever since Kinar's father learned the truth about Serid being one of the soldiers who invaded Gilneas I'm betting he just waiting to kill him. he missed his opportunity when Kinar went nuts...he should've let her kill Serid and then calm her down. look I don't anybody killed in this comic(except Mordin) but I am just saying what the guy is thinking.

He is thinking "If Kinar kills somebody in a feral state, somebody she may care about, she will NEVER forgive herself." Koutack feelings on Serid do not come into play in THAT decision. It's all about Kinar, her safety both mentally and physically. Above all else, we must remember that Koutack is a parent First.

Sometimes I dont know if people are joking, or they really dont think an Author knows what and how their characters feel.
KDM 10th Jan 2015, 2:26 PM edit delete reply
It's not a matter of what an author knows, it's what an author presents. Koutack has yet to present himself as a respectable father when it comes to dealing with his children. This is obvious because Amo has little respect for him. That has been proven already because she's more than ready to defy, and maybe even assault him if he crosses the line between Serid and Kinar's relationship. Even more so when Kinar is ready to sneak around behind his back instead of being a woman and telling him about her potential fiance. We as readers see him as a douche bag, no matter your intentions for him. Until he changes his attitude he will stay as such in our minds.
Amocin 10th Jan 2015, 4:40 PM edit delete reply
Amocin
As has been -presented- in the comic thus far. Koutack has never taken any action against Serid. He has been armed, and capable of attacking Serid on several occasions, and has had the opportunity to let an accident take Serid's life and did not act on it. For anybody to say that Koutack wishes Serid dead at this point is stretching it.

Koutack has made it clear that he does not like Serid, but he has removed himself from situations that cause him discomfort. Once at the camp, when he felt 'done' talking to the Tauren, he left. Second when he got suspicious, he pulled Amo aside, leaving Serid and Kinar alone. This very page, he made a vague threat, and again, removed himself from the situation. This is him avoiding confrontation with the Tauren.

And we can not speak of Amo's feelings towards Koutack, she has felt protective of Kinar and Serid, yes. But lets also talk about Amo's judgement. Whatever threat she made towards Koutack was right after she had just got done sleeping with a dragon in the far fetched hopes that it would somehow restore her life. Her judgment at that point should not be held to a high standard.

So, you, as readers, are given plenty of evidence that points to the contrary. See him as a douchebag all you like, but do not sit here and say that he wants Serid dead when there is no proof of that, anywhere. He has not told him he would kill him, he has not aimed a weapon at him, and he has never willingly put Serid's life at risk.
KDM 10th Jan 2015, 5:34 PM edit delete reply
It's not Koutack being killed, or killing Serid that's the issue. It's about a father not showing approval over something their child wants/loves. Let's not confuse them for one and the same. It's the issue of where he stands between himself and everyone else when it comes to the relationship between Serid and Kinar that's sparking various emotional responses from people, the same way as when Amo cheated on her husband with Drogan. That she was wrong is not the issue, it was that she was presenting us with a character of desperate woman willing to anything to get what she wants. As people who may have spouses/lovers/mates betray them this struck a chord we didn't want to feel so we vilified her in that moment.

But back with Koutack and Kinar/Serid we as readers are looking for someone to approve of Serid and Kinar because for us we put ourselves into the position of being the child who isn't being accepted by a parental figure. Probably because most of us have gone through that. In this case Amo, no matter her infidelity, is seen as the 'good parent' because she knows and, if not approves at least shows enough character to turn a blind eye yet also be there for Kinar to protect and guide her, even from someone who could be her counterpart, i.e Mom vs. Dad. She(Amo) being the senior female role model of this group for Kinar (who can be seen as a young woman even though she's been married and had a baby) is the doting mother. So in our hearts, mom was always there when dad wasn't. When dad screamed mom listened.

On the other hand, Koutack is the 'bad parent' because he obviously disproves openly towards something his daughter wants. In that moment 9/10 of the readers are taken back to a moment when they did something that wasn't approved of, be it good or bad, and wanted someone to tell them that what they were doing is 'ok'. Even when it wasn't.

I think you might be missing what your story is invoking in your readers. It doesn't matter the situation as a whole, it matters what's right now. What are we seeing? What are we feeling? What is it that speaks to us personally.

For a woman whose been in love and lost someone and is moving on, the last thing she wants is a family member disapproving of her new partner because it puts her on the level of having to make a choice.

As a daughter Kinar is going to move towards that parental figure who approves, in this case Amo. So your viewers see that. They understand wanting that approve for themselves and nearly completely vilify Koutack because of his disapproval.

Until he changes that position he's taking most readers are not going to favor him. Not because his opinion isn't right, or his judgement isn't sound based on his own feelings, but on the fact that we see ourselves in Kinar's position and feel victimized by a parental figure not approving of something we love.

If you were to ask most readers their feeling on Koutack most would probably say they can understand and sympathize, but at the same time having him removed from the scene would be ideal until Kinar makes a decision about where she wants her father to stand in regards to her relationship with Serid.

I'm sorry, I did not believe I was commenting on weather or not Koutack was a good parent or not. That is something that could be so widely interpreted by many different readers as many have their own idea on what good or bad parenting is. I was commenting on the whole "Why isnt Koutack killing him yet. He wants him dead" BS that I have been seeing.. because I have NEVER presented that within the comic, that he without a doubt wants Serid dead.

His parenting skills are up for debate, as are most people. As a parent, who knows many other parents, this is a question that comes up frequently. "Is so and so a good parent, and what makes a good parent a good parent." The answers vary from person to person, and based off of personal experiences.

Thats not to say that I dont understand your standpoint. I do completely, and can see that side of it. But you are assuming way too much based off of personal experiences. And while its nice that you may identify with Kinar, that doesnt mean anybody really knows what characters are thinking, feeling, or what their motivations for their actions are.

But basically what I am seeing is that you guys are assuming a lot about characters, when we really havent seen all of their motives, or even the entirely of these issues played out. What I am trying to get at, is please, for the love of god, do not assume anything, and then get mad based off those assumptions. Debate, speak of your theories with other commenters, but they are just that until shown otherwise IN COMIC. Theories.

Ya'know, everyone is going to form their own opinion about these sort of situations no matter how absurd or out of character they may be. You know what is going on and most of your reading audience does as well. Some people just see things in a different light than others.Perhaps their personal experience with life has been far more secluded than ours, who is to say. It's best not to invest to much stock in their comments or get yourself too worked up over their replies....you'll just cause yourself more unwanted/unneeded stress in the process.:)

It's okay, I dont really get worked up about these types of things. If I do, then I drop the subject, because then things can be said that can not be taken back.

However, I am always curious to know peoples reasons for liking or disliking characters or situations. Everybody has a certain standpoint, and I like to know what they are out of curiosity.

We had a guy a while back who would just comment "I hate this character" but that was all he would ever say... even when I asked him why.. He would never answer.. For some reason it bugged me. I just wanted to know what was off putting about it.

My characters will not change because of complaints, it happens, you cant please everybody, nor do I want to. Certain characters are there for you to question weather you should like them or not, others are there for you to outright hate.

Knowing why and how you get these reactions out of people can help you learn how to avoid such feelings in the future, or enhance them.
AJ Phoenix 12th Jan 2015, 1:19 AM edit delete reply
I really can't believe some people can't actually see past Koutack's façade of being nothing but a grumpy guy... As Amocin has presented thus far (both in her comments and her comic), Koutack is a well-developed character that needs Deep insight to understand.

I, for one, don't see him as a douche bag at all: rather, in my opinion, he is one of the most respectable characters in the comic, since he has come to terms with his past somehow and he knows how to put his daughter's feelings and well-being ahead of his own personal ideas. He has got the chance to kill Serid over two times already, but he has chosen to step aside and let life happen: that is highly admirable, as far as I'm concerned.

"We as readers see him as a douche bag, no matter your intentions for him. Until he changes his attitude he will stay as such in our minds."

I would prefer it, KDM, if you did not presume to speak for the rest of us...or in the very least, not for me. The conclusions you've just presented leave me to believe we've been reading an entirely different set of circumstances into what we've seen so far. Mine seem to be far less shallow.

As a parent myself, I can say that dads are VERY protective of their daughters, as I've seen my husband with our daughter. Makes me also believe Koutack was a single dad. I don't know if that's true or not, but he knows his daughter is an adult, yet he still sees her as his little girl, that won't ever change. I also applaud Serid on telling Sicha off. It was none of her business to begin with and Serid chose Kinar even before they got there, so she needs to take a back seat and leave them alone.

I for one do not understand why people are hating on Koutack. I like him. And I always had the feeling he knew about Serid and Kinar even before all this. He is a badass AND deeply cares about his "pack". What's not to love about him?

Been following this comic for awhile. And just now figured out how to comment, *facepalm*, or I would have said this before now...
DSquad 9th Jan 2015, 1:48 PM edit delete reply
I'd swear Koutack was trying to hide his slight amusement at Serid's choice of words, almost "That's true, funny he said it out loud"

I know it sure amused me.

As for Sicha, I think I read the cast page again just before she came upon them restraining Kinar so through that I knew she wasn't going to take the rejection well. I would assume from that as well that she won't be on good terms with at the very least Serid and Kinar for quite a while out of spite.

Neutral territory just means that it's expected everybody work together, and that faction wars are off limits. It's not a magical barrier that keeps people from attacking each other, they can, but they risk guards killing them, or even being exiled from the area.

In the circumstances of Kinar biting Serid, while against the rules, is seen as accidental at this point, from those who witnessed the crime. The fact that Serid is not speaking out against her helps her a great deal.
FoxyWolf 13th Jan 2015, 12:42 PM edit delete reply
While all you said was true, it could be seen as a personal matter, meaning faction has nothing to do with it. Still, I wouldn't touvh anyone in neutral territory either... guards op!

In anycase, I hope Koutack and Serid have a one on one (not a fight) to clear the water around them. I really want to see these two see each other as equals before the final bout against the Death Knights. Or actually have that happen during the course of the fight.

Keep it up!

Yeah it stinks that way. You forget when you are outside of neutral territory then the dad draws his sword and takes a swing at you. then you are pretty much screwed that that point. One he does it without warning and two he's does so fast you can't defend yourself and all you can do is sit and blindfold yourself so you don't see it coming.
