Guest2 28th Feb 2016, 9:55 AM edit delete reply
I bet his other eye is one of disappointment or pity. I mean, he sees someone who imagines she's an intelligent warrior who avoided any serious injuries in battle. But all he saw was a warrior who was more dedicated to being on the winning or safe side, rather then someone who's willing to fight for a reason that may require you to die.

I'm surprised he didn't remark, "OH! So your a virgin," when she said she was, "..as pristine as the day I was born."

But, calling her a "Blank Canvas" is pretty harsh.
Dreamfox 22nd Feb 2016, 7:42 AM edit delete reply
Extremely unlikely, unless...
When this is over she challenges him to a fight which gets their blood boiling as they exchange blows and insults. Would be a fun scene, but I don't think it will hppen.
Drakkenfyre 23rd Feb 2016, 2:03 AM edit delete reply
A serious burn. Albeit I thought, in a nearly infinitesimal chance, that it would lead to some getting-ons as well.
Kale 22nd Feb 2016, 1:46 AM edit delete reply
Did he just basicly blow her off with the comment that borders on 'its not worth my time answering someone who doesn't understand anything' ?
Dreamfox 22nd Feb 2016, 7:25 AM edit delete reply
It depends on how youi look at it.
If he heard her badmouthing his daughter, this is one of his few ways he can have some payback.
And he is right. Why train to become a warrior, if you are going to be the quivalent of a city guard?
Which somehos reminds me of this exchange:
Prince Lir: "What good is magic, if it can't save a Unicorn?"
Schmendrick the Magician: "That's what heroes are for."
Dragonfox 22nd Feb 2016, 3:24 PM edit delete reply

Ouch! Feel the burn, Sachi. Nicely played, Koutack. Though now I wonder if Sachi will have the nerve to take on Koutack for such an insulting, but well deserved, reply. He, after all, makes a valid point.

Looking forward to next week already.
Mangix 22nd Feb 2016, 2:07 AM edit delete reply

Wow....after all this time, Koutack REALLY knows his stuff.

Being a warrior means to fight and protect you hold dear to yourself.
Scars are proof of your efforts and experiences you've been put through.

Sicha has NONE of those qualities which in-turns makes her a talker not walker for life-or-death situations.

Thanks so much for putting so much time and effort into this strip alone.

It's extremely meaningful for everybody to read this strip as it is a life lesson for seniors and experience others.

Thanks so much again,

Kautak is delivering the burns! Hopefully Druid magic can heal that kind of wound. But I do see his point, if you claim to be a warrior, but don't have any scars in any form, physical, emotional or mental, you haven't really faught for whatever it was that hard. Good page with a real deep message in it.

I did not see that turnaround comind. I'd say he has heard her badmouthing his daughter or at least that he heard when she essentially said:
"Kinar is a risk, let's kill her before she becomes a danger."
Considering he and his entire family has been aware of the problem for a while now, they all choose to live with the risk. If it's because of her badmouthing Kinar, it says a lot about how he see's Kinar's relationship with Serid.
Anyway, here we have a case of a warrior taklking to a (would be?) warrior. And seeing her face, it looks like he hit a point she might not even have been aware of.

Nicely done, just... another week to see what kind of reply she comes up *sniff* ;)

Hey, Sicha, need some ice for that burn there? Or how about karma in the shape of an old war veteran who's not about to lose the only family he has to a racist cow.

I admit, I'm hesitant with Koutack...but he just solidified himself in my book. WTG!
Aussiewolf 22nd Feb 2016, 12:34 PM edit delete reply
As an ex-serviceman I can totally agree with Koutack's statement. I have seen many an action and have scars all over my body from them.

I see many young kids in the service strutting around like they own the place and the only thing marking their skin is a bit of ink they got.

I usually say just one thing to them and that is "kid, I was in and out of wars longer than you've been alive, I buried more comrades than I care to remember, and in all my years I've been alive, I have learned one thing, you can paint yourself up with tatts until you look like a $10 hooker, but until you get your first scar you aint a soldier."

Basically like the line from a country song "tattoos and scars are different things"
Ironscale 23rd Feb 2016, 11:18 PM edit delete reply
As a fellow service member with more than a few scars, and a shiny prosthetic, you hit the nail on the head.
Aussiewolf 7th Mar 2016, 11:21 PM edit delete reply
As one service member to another, thanks for your service brother/sister.

As my old CO once said to me, no matter the uniform, no mater the side, all soldiers are brothers and sisters.

The shared experience makes us family, no matter the race, nation or creed.

"or only get into fights they are certain they will win."

That seems like a wiser choice. :P
Amocin 22nd Feb 2016, 3:33 PM edit delete reply
The term "No risk, no reward." comes to mind.
Myrkin 22nd Feb 2016, 3:53 PM edit delete reply
True. :) Still, it's good to increase your odds by wearing good armor or setting up battle in a way that favors you.

Unless it's virtual/fake battle. Then it's better to fight with even odds. I mean it's no fun when a team of 20 people gang upon a team of five, right? ;)
Amocin 22nd Feb 2016, 4:27 PM edit delete reply
When you choose when to fight, sure, try to get something fair.. But in a world like this, where armies battle it out, where violence is around every corner, its tough to find something fair..
Myrkin 22nd Feb 2016, 4:51 PM edit delete reply
What I meant is that one can/should look for fair fight in video games or sport, but in war one needs to look for every tactical advantage they can get over their enemies even if it won't get them as much glory as fair fight.

English isn't my native language, so I apologize if I'm being unclear.

Oh, and I would like to say that you're making a great comic here, Amocin. I like it very much. :)
Dreamfox 22nd Feb 2016, 9:21 PM edit delete reply
Of course you take every advantage, but what do you do if the odds are stacked against you?
Not going to the fight?
Fight and risk death for what you believe?

And what good is it to be a warrior if you have no cause, no belief to fight for?

Nibd you, we are speaking about warriors, not soldiers, mercenaries or city guards. Warriors with a code, or a cause, that belief in something. Something they belief is worth fighting and even dying for.

And that's what this is about. Not a practical question, but a philosophical one.

And it seems Sicha has no answer (well, we'll se next monday).
Myrkin 23rd Feb 2016, 7:38 AM edit delete reply
Dreamfox: That's a good point. While the warriors need to increase their chances at fight/battle in any way possible, there are situations when they have no other choice but to fight with odds against them and they should be prepared to do that when the time comes.

I don't think I came across this abbreviation before. Could you tell me what "Nibd" stands for? Google told me it means (among other things) "Non-Inflammatory Bowel Disease", but I don't think it fits in this context. ;)

Viverred: You're right. Armor isn't perfect and it has weak points that can be exploited by knowledgeable combatant with right tools. Unfortunately, movies tend to depict armor as not so useful, where any arrow can pierce thick plate armor (and not those weak spots) like it was sheet of paper.
Guest 23rd Feb 2016, 10:15 AM edit delete reply
Nibd = Typo. Sorry about that. It should have read 'Mind'.
Myrkin 23rd Feb 2016, 2:18 PM edit delete reply
No problem. We all make typos from time to time. :)
Darkenfang 23rd Feb 2016, 9:17 PM edit delete reply
To be honest, I've seen fights with two fully armored opponents that were over in seconds. Where Hollywood *really* gets it wrong is with the long exchanges of sword on sword clash. Such things are almost exclusively for show, real sword fighters are focused on hitting the opponent as quickly and as hard as possible, not on hitting his sword over and over. Look up SCA Heavy Fighting on youtube for lots of examples of how *real* sword combat would really go down. It's savage and hard and not at all pretty, artsy, or choreographed anything like what you see in movies.
Myrkin 24th Feb 2016, 3:50 PM edit delete reply
Darkenfang: Indeed. I guess realistic sword combat doesn't sell as well as Hollywood likes, so it prefers more choreographed version. Not that it's wrong to enjoy watching the latter. :)
Shadec 27th Feb 2016, 3:40 AM edit delete reply
One's belief is all fine and well, but do they actually believe in those beliefs?
Amocin 27th Feb 2016, 8:27 AM edit delete reply
Shadec, I think you will need to be a little more specific..

I make characters I dont agree with, I have them say things I would never say. I have them do things I dont think is right.. Thats the point of being a writer/artist, to capture and create something beyond yourself.
Viverred 22nd Feb 2016, 10:46 PM edit delete reply
Armor is not always as effective as you'd like it to be. even the best armor has necessary 'loopholes'. Eye holes and visors, joins and the gaps between the pieces, etc. etc. all of which a skilled warrior will try to exploit at any opportunity. which is probably why koutack has a missing eye.
crazieanimefan1 22nd Feb 2016, 3:09 PM edit delete reply

Yeah, I kind of figured it might go,

(Angry indignation, attempt to slap Koutack)

(Grabbing of arm, pulling in close to restrain)

(Struggling back in anger, looks up)

(Eyes make contact, possible feinged struggling against Koutack's grip continuing as they stare at each other. Then more feigned struggling as they mutually pull each other closer)

(Mumbling comment questioning "So you think I'm very pretty...")

(Full embrace, and kiss. Further action.)

Of course, I felt this had a 1% chance of happening, but that's how I saw it going down.

After all who knows what Sicha or her friends might try to do with Kinar if given the chance. Despite the pink hair that cow does seem to have an evil? ...nah rather a spiteful aura. Here's hoping it fades and koutack or someone sets her straight before she becomes a problem.

LOL, am I the only one who sees Sicha giving Koutack the "Hitler Salute" when looking at the 1st panel? :D

Seems to me Sicha has a point. If I may paraphrase something I read elsewhere: "a warrior with 100 scars should have learned his lesson 99 scars ago".
Amocin 28th Feb 2016, 1:20 PM edit delete reply
I see it as a warrior who survived 100 times, and has 100 stories. War requires risks, war is not fair, lightning rarely strikes the same place twice. Those 99 times, somebody struck him differently than the first, and all the ones before it.

If somebody kicks your feet out from under you, you learn to watch your feet, and make sure you are sure footed.. If somebody new comes in and disarms you, somebody should not then say "Didnt you learn your lesson from when that guy knocked you over?" They are two separate lessons.
Rankamateur 28th Feb 2016, 4:00 PM edit delete reply
Your premise also discounts the likelihood that Koutack has faced more than a few opponents that are as skilled as himself...and against such, you can always count on them scoring a hit, no matter how talented at defense he might be. Can you really fault a student of war for wearing scars borne of from the fresh lessons that battle teaches with every new encounter?
Rembrant 29th Feb 2016, 1:35 AM edit delete reply
I saw it more as an "Explosively Suppress it" sign, with the fingers and all. It's something from a tokusatsu show I finished recently, Tomica Hero Rescue Force.

It is hard to see Koutack as the one who is right with the way he responds Koutack is certainly on a really high horse. I do not understand why everyone is so quick to thoughtlessly conclude that Koutack is right regardless if he is a important character.

I just noticed the title of this page. Blank Flank. Is that a My Little Pony reference? :3

http://www.furaffinity.net/gallery/amocin/folder/18169/My-Little-Pony - All my pony art

I have loved MLP since I was five, I even have a lot of my original ponies from when I was young.. My favorite being "Steamer". There is art of him in that file. I kept my toys thinking that one day I would have a daughter who could enjoy them as well.. Oddly enough I was half right, I have a son who loves them and even more odd is that he both loves trains and ponies...which co-inside with my fav pony from when I was young.. Somewhat eerie.

when i first heard about this comic, it was from my brother as being pornographic; something i try to avoid as i tend to develop habits easily. there was, however, a time when he admitted that, while he may have started reading for the porn, he continued reading for the story(plot?) itself.

eventually i started reading it and, while i admit that i was looking forward to the adult content(and wasn't disappointed when reading it), i gradually started getting more and more into storyline; even more so than the adult content.

i'd like to be able to show this to other people, but i'm not sure if they'd be into the adult content(me and my brother are the only furries that i know of in the family). do you know if there will be a clean version of this comic in the future?

admittedly, i'm not sure if i should be asking this or not. ^v^;
