Oh wow, the plot thickens, the humans were transformed into worsens? I'm not too clear on the WOW origins, your humans expressions go perfectly in the last pannel!
Guest 7th Nov 2016, 5:51 AM edit delete reply
It's a VERY long story. Yes is the short answer. The long answer is that Worgen in general weren't always human and have different origins than other werewolf depictions, but it is still contractible.

The Worgen Curse is what is responsible for turning them into Worgen. In a nutshell, Gilneas (the nation the playable Worgen are from) walled themselves up in their city and withdrew from the Alliance. Genn Greymane (their leader) had decided he wanted no part in the continuing conflict with the Orcs or losing any more men.

The Worgen Curse came from a group of Night Elf Druids who had sank too deeply into their animal form's feral side and had inadvertently become vicious, mindless creatures. Their Druidic magic unintentionally turned it into a sort of magic-based spreadable disease. And a bite or a scratch would infect other people.

They were locked up by the other Night Elves for thousands of years, but a few got out. The curse spread. "Wild" Worgen were a common sight in some areas of pre-Cataclysm WoW.

Enter Gilneas. A few wild Worgen found their way into the city or one of the citizens received a wound from a wild Worgen, or a combination of both. The curse rapidly spread, at the same time as the Forsaken launched an attack, meaning the citizens were fighting two battles. One from within, one from outside. A good chunk of the city became infected.

Feeling responsible for the curse getting out, the Night Elves helped the survivors, coming up with a potion and ritual that would return the infected's mind, so they were no longer a crazed, wild beast. They could also return to human form. But could turn back into a Worgen willingly, or force-change when under stress or anger. But they still retained their mind and were not "wild."

After losing Gilneas, they rejoined the Alliance.

And to Amo, I've wondered what Kinar looked like as a human. Didn't expect to ever see it, however. I was pleasantly surprised here. She looks good. Your humans are better than you give yourself credit for.

Druids working on researching their artifacts in Legion actually mentioned the imprisoned Wargens being released intentionally to help in a battle but had gotten out of control. This information was part of the Scythe of Elune research.
BrianCore 10th Nov 2016, 12:01 AM edit delete reply
Don't also forget that the curse of the Worgen only affects races in the WoW universe that can be druids. So humans, night elves, tauren, and trolls are vulnerable to it. :)
Kuri 13th Nov 2016, 2:36 AM edit delete reply
You are only partly right.
From http://wow.gamepedia.com/Worgen

Long ago, amid a brutal war between the night elves and the demonic satyrs in Kalimdor, a group of druids practiced a powerful yet unwieldy form that embodied the fury of the wolf Ancient, Goldrinn. Taught by Ralaar Fangfire, these Druids of the Pack sought to temper the uncontrollable rage inherent in their chosen form. To do so, they willingly submitted to the energies of the [Scythe of Elune], a mystical artifact created from Goldrinn's fang and the staff of Elune.

Rather than abate the druids' fury, however, the weapon transformed Ralaar and his followers into worgen: bestial humanoids enslaved by their own primal instincts. Blinded by all-consuming rage, Ralaar's druids tore through friend and foe alike during battle with the satyrs. Night elves wounded by the unruly beasts contracted a virulent curse that turned them into worgen as well. Desperate to stanch the affliction’s spread, Archdruid Malfurion Stormrage mournfully banished the worgen beneath Daral'nir within the Emerald Dream, where they would be in peaceful slumber for all eternity.

I'm less interested in Kinar's human form and more on what happened back then, so let the flashback contine.
Drakkenfyre 7th Nov 2016, 4:15 PM edit delete reply
Welcome to Blizzard lore 101. They'll retcon it at the drop of a hat if it makes it easier for them.

They did the same thing for Demon Hunters. Any race could become one. It didn't involve eating a demon or anything. The horns, hooves and wings Illidan has? A side-effect of consuming the magic from Gul'dan's skull. He was unique amongst Demon Hunters.

Suddenly all that got retconned, only Elves could become one, and the other bits became standard.

It's one of the most-annoying things about Blizzard for me. Their lore is built on Jell-O. It seems like they have no respect for what was previously written, and will invalidate it just because they "had a cooler idea."
Dreamfox 7th Nov 2016, 5:04 PM edit delete reply
My apologies, I was not precise. I'm only interested in the flashback as far as it concerns Kinar's and her family's backstory.

But I do understand your frustration when it comes to retcons or changes becase 'they had a better idea'. It's the reason I don't read any Marvel or DC comics in general or X-Men comics in particular anymore.
Drakkenfyre 8th Nov 2016, 8:24 AM edit delete reply
Oh dang, I must've clicked the wrong "Reply", that was meant for Lenanu above, who replied to me about the Night Elves intentionally releasing the Worgen, which was a reton to the previous Worgen lore, which in itself was ANOTHER reton to the original Scythe of Elune and Shadowfang Keep lore origins.

Sorry about that.
HyenaBloke 8th Nov 2016, 5:26 PM edit delete reply
The worgen being released in order to fight might not be a retcon, if it's referring to Arugal trying to employ them to defend Gilneas from the outside. He tried to control them with the Scythe of Elune, but failed. That's basically the story behind the original Shadowfang Keep dungeon, back in Vanilla.

The whole dungeon was redesigned in Cata, the bosses are now the tree noblemen from the worgen starting area. The ones who rejected Greymane after he revealed that he had the curse too.

A lot of people have been asking for the story of the worgen.
What I'm going to cover is:
-The worgen and their creation
-The siege of Gilneas and the Gilnean worgen
So first off I can't remember all of the names so bear with me. I'm also skipping lots of details.
The worgen were originally a Durid form of the wolf. The wolf form was extremely unreliable so the wolf Druids combined two artifacts the staff of elune and a tooth from the wolf demigod (404 name not found). Once it was combined it completely backfired. Instead of it bringing the form to a controllable state it made them more of a 'modern' worgen like form as well as now when uncleansed worgen bite/scratch others the curse gets spread. After some events the worgen were traped under a tree, sleeping in the emerald dream. Later on thousands of years later a human Mage named aurgal (something like that) summoned the worgen to help the gilneans repell the forsaken invaders.
Now we get to events near this page. So again offen with the worgen story; it backfires and soon the worgen turn on the gilnean people so while the forsaken are pouring into gilneas (the massive gate was destroyed during the cataclysm). Stuff happens and the night elves turn up and help the gilnean worgen find balance in their face form and pushes back the forsaken (note: the gilneas city is now full of a pluage that kills both alive and undead). and that is a extremely shortened story of the worgen. I recommend going to wowpedia and search for the story of the scythe of Elune.

Why is Kinar A Redhead when she's had black hair this entire time in worgen form? Are you doing a game mechanic? I'm just curious.
Amocin 7th Nov 2016, 7:57 AM edit delete reply
Partly because of game mechanic. Kinar has always been kinda off color though. Black Worgen but has white shape shifted forms.. And it just so happens that you only get the white forms if you are a redhead.

The game did not originally give a lot of options to customize the color of your Worgen and the colors almost never matched up with hair color.; Kinar reflects these game options, where as the other Worgen are what they should have done.
Lenanu 7th Nov 2016, 10:10 AM edit delete reply
I think for the wargens to shift white was decided to be redheaded since they don't have white hair like the Night Elves do, and there isn't really a Red feral form after all XD

Guest 7th Nov 2016, 9:55 AM edit delete reply
You might want to take a more minimalistic approach on humanoid female lips. I know, my tendency is to want to make them look more feminine too; in situations like the ones your characters are seen in, I doubt they'd be wearing make-up (or had botox). Plus, when people are upset, their lips tend to stretch and thin out (you tend to make them look kissable rather than upset).
Visitor 7th Nov 2016, 7:52 PM edit delete reply
No, her human drawings are great and the expression of the mouth to Kinar's mood also match. Keep up the good work Amo!
Guest 7th Nov 2016, 10:41 AM edit delete reply
You say you don't care for your human drawings, but I say they're good. Some of the expressions are comparable to Disney movies, like 'The Little Mermaid'. You do good work.
Rembrant 7th Nov 2016, 11:08 AM edit delete reply
Oh wow. I never even expected to see Kinar in human form. I really like how you draw human women from what we see here.

Also interesting to see wild out-of-control worgen seem to have glowing green eyes. And of course, there goes Callow again stealing the page. He's such a stand-out.

Ignore what that previous poster said about you drawing lips too plump. If blizzard can make super models out of blue squid goat aliens you can make plumper lips. Know why? This is a comic, based on a fictional reality. Your humans are awesome, your story great, and you keep me checking every for updates. Great job!
Aetheos 8th Nov 2016, 11:24 AM edit delete reply
Well in all honesty ghaths mouth and cheeks look rather... Strange... But not really all that bad. Kinar on the other hand is pretty good. I can see why you aren't comfortable with it but everyone enjoys different styles. And I like this style of human
Mighty Bob 8th Nov 2016, 4:59 PM edit delete reply
Like the human forms, and looking back to this flashback. Kinar kinda looks a bit like Ariel from the Little Mermaid.
HyenaBloke 8th Nov 2016, 5:33 PM edit delete reply
Honestly, I like the way you portray the characters as humans. They certainly have much more believable bodies than the models in-game, where even the mages are rippling lumberjacks.
BloodshedSabre 9th Nov 2016, 2:26 AM edit delete reply
This'll probably get answered in a page or two but I'll see if I can guess.
So, isn't Kinar meant to be more powerful in this time than when she became a Worgen? It's been said that Kinar has the power and Denor had the focus and Denor isn't dead yet because Kinar isn't a Worgen...
So I would think that Kinar, who I'll assume can summon storms and all that jazz at this point in time, can defeat a close range combatant quite easily?

Well, time shall tell.
Dreamfox 10th Nov 2016, 8:05 AM edit delete reply
It depends on the rules.
With WoW rules, yes she would in all probability win.
In (more or less, this is fantasy after all) real life it can be different.

1. Casting in close combat usually gets you smacked before you finish the spell.

2. A spell powerful enought to take down Koutack might also take out Gath in an enclosed space like this. Even if Kinar is immune to the effects of her own spell.
BloodshedSabre 11th Nov 2016, 6:32 AM edit delete reply
To answer that comment:

Ghath is there to be a meatshield. That is what warriors are for. :)
So I would assume Kinar would be just fine with spamming some disabling spells and such since this is 'real' and so there should probably be a wide range of non-lethal spells for such a purpose.
I mean, if all ends badly than she can probably just heal people. She *is* a competent user of magic right now.

But then, shit hit the fan so I'll just go on and assume this is wrong.

Viverred 9th Nov 2016, 9:42 AM edit delete reply
I always suspected Kinar was a redhead, and not just because the game mechanic.

I always enjoyed the starting area for the Worgen. was well made and if i could id play it again and again.
Guest 12th Nov 2016, 6:32 PM edit delete reply
Amo, I have a question for you. Would you draw Shai/Ghath or Shai/Koutack scene if someone commissioned you for it? Also, would you allow it to be one of the options for a future donation picture?

You've done a great job with recent pictures featuring Kinar and Shai, and made me want to buy a commission from you in the future.
Amocin 12th Nov 2016, 11:59 PM edit delete reply
That really depends. When I take commissions, I tend to want a break from these characters, so there will only be so many Druids related commissions I will accept at a time.

I also stick away from Parent and their Offspring type pictures. Siblings seems to feel more 'innocent' in intention.. like curious kids figuring out their bodies around the same time.. A parent and a child though.. you start to wonder how long that was happening, and if it feels forced from one side because one is the authority figure... so no.. that just seems a bit too much for me.
LegendaryAngelAuron 13th Nov 2016, 2:20 AM edit delete reply
This is awesome! Kinar's Human form is gorgeous, in a bad ass way. I have a very very hard time believing that you're bad at drawing Humans. But I do understand it can be a hard, tricky thing. Best of luck! Please keep going, because you'll only get better.
