Cow horns being cut sounds like trimming a thick tree branch... and it does bleed for a bit, a slow trickle really, not gushing... but there is a bit.

I love the Tenacious D reference, Amo XD

Bull horns dont grow back.
Jerodan Diogenes 12th Aug 2019, 10:41 AM edit delete reply
They do, technically. Horns are like hooves and fingernails. They grow slowly. Over time, like many, many years, it will slowly regrow back to the same length. It won't look the same, though. Also, Serid has access to rejuv magic, so there's that.

Bulls who loose horns are generally allowed to live long enough to regrow them. This is why bulls are kept separated from the herd and each other. If they break a horn, they're considered useless for breeding (meaning that buyers considering them for stud will take one look at the missing horn and pass, so no stud fees), so they get sent to slaughter. Aren't humans wonderful creatures?

Antlers can and do fall off yearly, and grow back.. However, bull horns, cattle, do not grow their horns back. Sure there may be in game magic to make that happen, or to reattach, but it wont grow back naturally.

Actually a bovid horn can grow back as long as the root wasn't damaged. It may not look the same as the original horn, some can grow back weird, and have to be cut again. When vets dehorn cattle or goats there is actually a blood vessel root-type thing they have to remove or the horns do grow back. :)

Another fun fact is when these animals are being dehorned the blood from the horn-base can exit through the the sinus cavity making the animal look like its nose it bleeding. xD

<worked with lots of bovids here>
That horn looks like it was cut clean off, that'll not grow back, at least for bovids in this world, although it will heal-over in time.

Got a farm here, the root wasn't even close, horn can grow back, you gotta cut it at it's base and burn the root with a red burning iron or some other way

Somehow that looks even more uncomfortable than being stabbed in the... shoulder region.
AlphaGuardian 12th Aug 2019, 8:12 AM edit delete reply
Damn that's not a good feeling, I've had cattle that needed dehorning and it's not easy. Hope he can heal that otherwise he's going to be a little off balance in the head.

There is blood in that horn? o_O
Amocin 12th Aug 2019, 8:49 AM edit delete reply
As far as I am aware, all horns/antlers will bleed when broken.
Pufnstuff 12th Aug 2019, 11:12 AM edit delete reply
Deer antlers (as opposed to horns, antlers drop off seasonally and regrown the next year) do not bleed once they have shed their velvet for the year.
If knocked off early, the scalp may bleed because the exposed skin may be torn, but the antler itself doesn't.
Hakiu 12th Aug 2019, 11:50 AM edit delete reply
Horns will bleed when broken at any point in time. They can continue to grow provided the base of the horn was not damaged, but will not reform the original horn prior to the damage. Antlers will bleed when broken/damaged as long as the animal is still in the velvet stage.

Here's your daily dose of information no one really asked for.

To answer those wondering, Amo is correct, Bull horns will not grow back once broken, they will indeed bleed somewhat, unlike the horns of a Stag Deer or Bull Elk, whose horns will grow back and have a cycle of falling off and regrowing through their life-span.

And thank you once again Amo for sharing your talent and depicting such a wonderfully involved story in your comic/s. =^.^=

As long as Serid can keep the piece of his horn, there should be no reason he can't have it re-attached. I'm sure that Tauren have artisans who specialize in horn restoration.
Also, in-game canon suggests that there is SOME method for regrowing and/or reshaping horns. Otherwise the Barber wouldn't be able to do it.

I favor it being Magic ;)

I find it funny how people always have to make a point that they’re right about everything...can’t we just simply enjoy this FICTIONAL setting and amazing story that amo has created for us? This all takes a lot of effort, trying to cut into details kills the experience and mood, so please put aside your knowledge and accept that it’s NOT YOUR WORLD.

Love your comic Amo! Keep up the good work!

This is a really good piece and I love it. But I just wanted to point out that in the second frame where he gets his horn cut off, it’s his right horn. But in the picture of him going feral form his left horn is cut.
Amocin 12th Aug 2019, 7:30 PM edit delete reply
... You may want to take a look at that again.. Its his right horn, which is consistent on all the panels.
Horns 13th Aug 2019, 1:48 AM edit delete reply
In the last frame his right horn is still pointed and intact while his left horn is flat and looks cut.
Kajex Surnahm 13th Aug 2019, 9:49 AM edit delete reply
What are you even talking about? In the last panel the only horn in view is his undamaged left horn- what remains of his right horn is obscured by his mane.

He could make a decorative metal horn end for the broken one or an enchanted cap on the broken horn that prevents blood infection

So how is she supposed to get her magic back? Is she supposed to eat the gem? Rub it on her head? Use it like a butt plug? Not sure if it came with instructions.

I had to have it pointed out to me that Serid’s Horn was just cut off, but once it was, I couldn’t get the idea of Kimahri out of my head.
