While I have said that I would not use MoP content, I had always planned on making a Yak like Tauren for this reason, Blizzard just beat me to making this page, so they get their mention.

The names for the Nyati and Mbungu, are the Swahili names for the African Buffalo, and the Great Eland for which both of the species come from.

I'm pretty sure you guys could guess which one Serid was related to just by picture alone.

ALSO - I am aware that Blizzard has continued to use the same template for the females of all species, which is lame.. soooo.. Artistic License.

your designs are awesome :3

I've always thought that Blizzard's Taunka were ugly and just poorly designed altogether. They just look... wrong. This is why I was glad that they used the normal Tauren models for the females. I really like your take on them though, both male and female.
Rankamateur 12th Apr 2013, 4:14 AM edit delete reply
I imagine the near extinction of the latter two races is a result of the centaur aggression in the Barrens, which nearly resulted in the destruction of the Tauren there as well...until Thrall and his Horde arrived to give them aid.
Ramol 12th Apr 2013, 4:30 AM edit delete reply
Love how the storyline is going Makes it al more interesting to read.
Saldura 12th Apr 2013, 6:29 AM edit delete reply
Too bad the female taunka never got their own model instead of just being a larger copy of the normal female tauren... though that said, shame that none of these other tauren exist in the game.

Hopefully someone at blizzard is reading this and considers putting these in the game as options when the new character models finally do come out. :3

Though for the timeline of the comic I find it a bit odd that he knows of the yaungol on pandaria, considering it was hidden in the mists since the sundering and the tauren nomads that found themselves stuck there evolved over time into the yaungol.

Probably due to Tauren History passed down by their storytellers

If a blizzard employee is reading this, it would be kinda weird.
Guest 12th Apr 2013, 6:33 AM edit delete reply
Amocin, will you include all of the tauren species in the comic? The Yaungol are interesting for me.

Kinar should be asking how many races there are, not species. If there really were five different species they wouldn't be able to interbreed and create offspring very often and those offspring they would have would be completely sterile making it kind of a big deal to be 'half Mbungu' in itself. Also Taunka aren't Tauren at all, they are distantly related but based around a completely different species
Amocin 12th Apr 2013, 1:20 PM edit delete reply
I will have to change that to race then when I get the time. Likely tomorrow.

As far as Taunka, they are distant relatives of the Tauren. For somebody to call them a different kind of Tauren would not be inaccurate.
Ashinda 13th Apr 2013, 10:35 AM edit delete reply
When Serid is referring to the Taunka of the North, shouldn't it be 'Then there are the Taunka' instead of 'Then there is the Taunka'? We're talking about many individuals not a single 'THE Taunka' right?
Kit 12th Apr 2013, 8:50 PM edit delete reply
Who says different species can't reproduce together? Where would we get ligers otherwise?
Guest 12th Apr 2013, 10:17 PM edit delete reply
Ligers are sterile except for 2% of female offspring but only with the mothers species. Given the rarity of such offspring occuring in the first place for all intents and purposes Lions and Tigers can be said not to be able to interbreed and create fertile offspring. Sub-species can interbreed though, like wolfs and dogs, without problems
Guest 13th Apr 2013, 1:35 AM edit delete reply
Not true this is a myth sadly. Most ligers are not Sterile some are but that is cause they are known for having many serious birth defects.
Guest 13th Apr 2013, 2:31 PM edit delete reply
Its not a myth, its in the scientific literature. Yes 2% of female ligers are fertile but the frequency in which hybrids are born at all make this fact largely irrelevant. For all intents and purposes Ligers are sterile and not a viable hybrid.
Amocin 13th Apr 2013, 1:53 AM edit delete reply
I hope that you are aware that dogs originate from wolves, and given time and without human intervention, dogs very well may breed back into wolves.

From what I was reading, some species of bovine can not breed successfully with cattle, while some do.
olsh 13th Apr 2013, 3:22 AM edit delete reply
Beefalo and Brangus are the 2 fertile cross breeds involving cattle that I know.
Guest 13th Apr 2013, 2:55 PM edit delete reply
The bison and cattle involved in such hybrids are so closely related it wouldn't be a stretch to call them the same species. Which brings up a fair point, these five Tauren maybe different species but not so distantly related that they can't interbreed. I'm finding the nitpick about Kinar saying species instead of race increasingly moot and I retract the whole thing.
Guest 13th Apr 2013, 2:36 PM edit delete reply
I was aware and as a matter of fact, dogs didn't merely originate from wolves, they are infact still wolves which is why I said that wolves and dogs can interbreed. The only barriers which exist which prevent this from happening is social differances and size differances both products of the selective breeding process. I didn't mean to give the impression that wolves and dogs can't interbreed, quite the opposite infact.
Deme 14th Apr 2013, 2:17 AM edit delete reply
By the way, this is in the WoW universe, where green orc aliens can successfully breed with other blue goat interplanetary aliens and produce viable offspring (Garona) with humans (Medan), as well as orc/ogre cross-breeds (Rexxar), troll-descent/human crossbreeds (Arator the Redeemer, Vereesa Windrunner's children by Rhonin), so, I doubt it would be wise to get too hung up on IRL limitations.

Just relax and enjoy the action. :)

In fantasy, genetics is what you make of it. a good story trumps science any day. unless your talking science fiction.

Not to mention the more common Mule.
Rembrant 12th Apr 2013, 12:49 PM edit delete reply
Are these our own invention, or are they original? Whichever it may be, you made them look very cool, especially the female normal, taunka and mbungu, and the male taunka, nyati and mbungu. It's really interesting to get to see the varied breeds of Tauren.
Amocin 12th Apr 2013, 1:21 PM edit delete reply
The Nyati and Mbungu are both my creation, where as the other three are not. I did design the female versions for the Taunka, and was unable to find a picture of the female Yaungol if one exists. So all but the Tauren female are of my design.
Longtail 12th Apr 2013, 4:18 PM edit delete reply
I haven't seen a female Yaungol at all in the game or out, but if they ever do appear, I bet Blizzard will just use a female Tauren model again. 9.9

Very clever with the Nyati and Mbungu. I really love the looks of them and could totally see them living, working, and playing in the Barrens. I also love the work you did in redoing the females of each kind. Well done!
Sonnabend 12th Apr 2013, 2:07 PM edit delete reply
Oh my gosh the Taunka females are so cute! I wish Blizzard would have done something to change up the female models :(
Guest 12th Apr 2013, 3:20 PM edit delete reply
Artistic license nothing. More like "more creative than Blizzard" I play a female tauren, and wish SO much that they would put at least the slightest effort into dimorphism in their NPC races (i.e. the Taunka) Your female designs for all of these are wonderful... I SO with they existed in the game.

WoW in it self needs a complete rework on the graphical scale. The entire game is running graphics that might have been hard on machines 15 years ago, But right now it even maxed out the graphics are sub-par at best. Everything needs to be re-meshed and redesigned. As it stands right now, WoW is a block world with slightly decent textures to give the illusion of soft rich edges.

With how large WoW is.. I do not see this ever happening. From a business standpoint, I just do not see blizzard investing millions just to make a widely accepted block world look better.
Philo Wintercoat 12th Apr 2013, 4:28 PM edit delete reply
...Implying polygon engines use blocks as some sort of basis.

Also, I think WoW looks fine, much better than most of the games I own. And thanks for comparing the only machine I can afford to one "15 years ago".
Kit 12th Apr 2013, 9:26 PM edit delete reply
15 years ago? 1998...

That was a lovely year. For $4600, you could snag a system with a 400MHz Pentium II CPUs (MUCH faster than the 333MHz systems) and a beautiful 100MHz motherboard with 64MB (MEGABYTES) of SDRAM. A nice 8MB AGP card gave great 3D performance in Quake II and the Sound Blaster AWE64 sound card would fill the room with sound.

I'd love to see you even begin to run WoW on that. ^.^ Assuming you could fit WoW on the massive 18GB high-end hard drives of the time.
Jessica U. Ingmann 13th Apr 2013, 8:48 AM edit delete reply
Jessica U. Ingmann
Oh you could FIT it on there... WoW used ta be much, much smaller back in the Vanilla days. RUN it however? Seems unlikely since at minimum, an 800Mhz CPU 'n 32MB vidjya card. 'v'

Luckily, WoW was released in 2004, not 1998. Though it WAS bein' worked on since like... 2003, I think?

Hey, I just have to ask. Is Amo in the comic a spin off of your name? If so, is she based on yourself?
Amocin 27th Nov 2013, 12:26 AM edit delete reply
Amo is a spin off of my name but I have nothing in common with the character, nor do I see her as myself.. So she shares nothing aside from a name.

Holy crap the female Tauren subspecies are all so cute! I want to hug them!

. . .Then maybe motorboat their boobies.

Why do the Yaungol's horns grow down? Doesn't that sort of defeat the purpose of having horns. Any other species or race with horns I have seen either grow up or curve in some way. Horns are there as part protection and part fighting after all.
