He killed Kinar's family!? This is going to be very interesting.
Snow 10th May 2013, 12:34 AM edit delete reply
I have to say, that was an interesting twist, so he killed her family and turned her into a worgen? Also, Anders speaks? I figured that'd happen eventually.
Amocin 10th May 2013, 12:37 AM edit delete reply
Amocin
He didn't kill her family, but him infecting her resulted in her killing her family.
Snow 10th May 2013, 2:31 PM edit delete reply
Oh, right... I forgot you said that she killed her own family on one of the other pages.
Random 10th May 2013, 12:52 AM edit delete reply
Is the dragon really talking? Or is Amo just talking to herself, imagining what her "conversation partner" would say?

Also, by blackmailing Koutack rather than saying anything at all about Kinar and Serid, doesn't Amo just confirm Koutack's fears? Wouldn't he realise that if Amo & Kinar had nothing to hide there would be no need to blackmail?
Amocin 10th May 2013, 1:00 AM edit delete reply
Amocin
There is no way for the two to hide their relationship forever, and the blackmail surely wont keep Koutack from eventually saying something about it. So really, Amo is just buying them more time.

Also, Anders really is speaking, and not Amo having delusions.
Rankamateur 10th May 2013, 1:15 AM edit delete reply
I wouldn't say that she confirmed his suspicions, per say. More like, she put him in his place for daring to place her in the hot seat as the person that betrayed their secret to him. I know that would have made ME angry enough to do so.

I'm not saying that Amo's reaction to his meddling hasn't in his mind added to his suspicions, of course. However, he did just learn that approaching a master of secrets for personal information on others is more than a little costly.
Jestar 10th May 2013, 12:59 AM edit delete reply
That last part made me think dirty XD. It made me think of the sex part when Anders first went into Kinar XD that he wants her so amo says "I'm sure you would love that" XD
Rankamateur 10th May 2013, 1:00 AM edit delete reply
Not just one plot twist in this episode, but TWO. The truth about the source of Kinar's affliction...which up 'til now, was assumed to be her husband...and the revelation that Anders can speak after all. Further, I enjoy how nonchalantly Amo reacts to the young drake's (rather articulate) commentary, indicating (as you explained above) that his loquacity was yet another secret she knew all along.

You might even say that a third twist has been revealed in Amo's final repartee, in that she observes that Ander's interests in the matter are more than a little personal. Amocin...thank you for a very enjoyable story!

Josh.C 10th May 2013, 1:18 AM edit delete reply
All that is very interesting.

Though I find it just as interesting that Amo is collecting all these secrets and how her concerns for Kinar seem to both be similar and differ from Koutack.

why is a surprise that anders can speak when there are other dragons that can speak and even shapeshift? wouldn't all those there have met some talking dragons before now?
dragondruid 10th May 2013, 2:04 AM edit delete reply
well for Amo right now she is probably still upset over what happened with drogan and of course she is blackmailing Koutack for more time like Amocin stated above and at first i was surprised at first of Anders talking to Amo but i thought about it and Anders could be alittle like Wrathion from legendary questing in pandaria he might have more intelligence then hes letting on just like Wrathion
Mangix 10th May 2013, 2:16 AM edit delete reply
Personally, I think Amo is protecting Kinar, since MORE than likely she doesn't want the same depression to occur again that nearly caused Kinar's suicide mission
Rembrant 10th May 2013, 2:43 AM edit delete reply
Wow, double whammy in this issue! Turns out Kinar is adopted by the man responsible for turning her into a worgen which caused the death of her family. Suddenly Koutack's likeable rating dropped big-time.

And to add to that, Anders isn't just a pervy yet loyal dragon! He can talk, and definitely doesn't like the relationship between Serid and Kinar, and we did see him butt in on their sex before, moving Serid aside so he could get at Kinar more intimately than Serid despite Serid still joining for a spitroast.

Which also begs the inquiry. If that big red dragon we saw before turned out to be Drogan, who can transform from dragon to tauren, can Anders himself turn into a different form, and if so, has it been anyone that any of the characters has interacted with before? The plot thickens!
Amocin 10th May 2013, 5:33 AM edit delete reply
Amocin
I don't know why you think Kinar is adopted, as it was never said anywhere that she is. Nor does it say it was Koutack's choice to turn his daughter. I think everybody is forgetting that feral rage all Worgen start out as.
Rankamateur 10th May 2013, 5:33 PM edit delete reply
I suppose it's just a matter of not everyone that reads your comic being overly familiar with the lore of Gilnean worgen. Though most of your fan-base are likely players of the game, I am often surprised in how poorly participants in the game itself understand the history of their worgen characters.

For a thorough run-down of their background, I suggest the following reading material:

Akela 12th May 2013, 2:39 AM edit delete reply
THANKS I have never played wow, so that little bit of information really helps tie things together...
Rembrant 13th May 2013, 1:19 AM edit delete reply
Well, as you know, I know next to nothing about WoW lore, so I'm just going by what I'm reading here. I just took it as "Koutack infected Kinar and took her in like she was his daughter because some memory thing or whatever". So you mean that they were all a human family and Koutack got infected first, then he infected his daughter, but turns out that by infecting her, she killed her child and her husband, who is now a worgen death knight?

I must admit, this development has confused the hell out of me right now.

I also still ponder about Anders and the possibility that he may be able to transform into another form like Drogan. We saw Drogan has normal eyes in both dragon and tauren form, but Anders has glowing eyes. If he can transform into something else, I wouldn't be surprised if he was a death knight himself. But that's just my speculation.
Rankamateur 13th May 2013, 4:40 AM edit delete reply
It hasn't been explained yet, so the jury is still out as to how and when Kinar's husband died, or when he became a Death Knight. As for Anders, it is quite possible he can assume humanoid form, though unlikely; he's still a bit young yet, and most dragonkin tend to acquire the ability when they are older...rare exceptions being `special' dragons, such as Wrathion (prince of the black dragonflight). Being a nether drake could possibly change that supposition, as Anders' race of dragons are a rare sub-species of black dragons altered by exposure to magic and other influences...which also explains his glowing eyes, by the way.
Zack Cloud 10th May 2013, 3:15 AM edit delete reply
what is Anders and the elder worgen's problem with Serid and Kinar having a relationship? and what timeline does this takes place? during or after the war between the alliance and the horde.
Rankamateur 10th May 2013, 3:56 AM edit delete reply
The events depicted in this comic occur during the Cataclysm timeline (before Pandaria is discovered by either faction). As for the war between the Alliance and Horde, it has been pretty much on-going for many years. There have been periods of relative `peace', but the war has never really ended; it has simply gotten `hotter' since Garrosh became Warchief.
Zack Cloud 10th May 2013, 2:41 PM edit delete reply
I can't belive that damn war is still going on...ya think it would end sooner or later. and that still doesn't answear my question...what is Anders and the elder worgen's problem with Serid and Kinar having a relationship?
Mort 10th May 2013, 3:04 PM edit delete reply
In a nutshell, I would say their respective problems are...

for Koutack: "She's my daughter, and he's a tauren, i.e. a member of the Horde, i.e. one of those murdering monsters that stole our homeland." A nasty alchemy of overprotectiveness and bigotry (deplorable, but not entirely unjustified).

for Anders: "She's my caretaker, my rider, and the person I care about most in the world. And at some point, I realized I love her. And before I could do anything about it, this damned tauren showed up...."

... well, that latter is just guesswork, but the most natural interpretation of the last panel of this comic and that whole surprise menage-a-trois back in Shadowmoon Valley.
Zack Cloud 11th May 2013, 8:01 PM edit delete reply
I knew it! I knew Anders love Kinar since the day they fucked!
Grimlos 2nd Jun 2013, 2:03 PM edit delete reply
He's been with Kinar since he was a whelp so I think his affection is as long as that.
Aetheos 10th May 2013, 6:40 PM edit delete reply
Aetheos
I don't think there is a "after" the war. The war is still there and always will be otherwise WoW would become redundant. And this was made before the MOP patch was even rumored so before MOP.
Zack Cloud 12th May 2013, 6:42 AM edit delete reply
I was only saying that I can't belive the war between the Horde and the Alliance is still going on...I mean...sheesh...I wouldn't mind of maybe peace treaties or truces...I mean...I don't exactly know how long the war's been going on...but i'm guessing a long time...it's a wonder how both they're lands ain't riped apart by they're conflict.
Amocin 12th May 2013, 12:25 PM edit delete reply
Amocin
There are other problems in the world that the horde and the alliance will team up together to help resolve, this kinda holds back some of the problems for a time, as they face a common enemy. So there are other factions, like the druid circle, where both factions will work in harmony.
Zack Cloud 12th May 2013, 6:25 PM edit delete reply
and also...what are Kinar and her company doing in that snow canyon again? I seem to remember it had something to do with an icecrown or something.
Guest 28th Jul 2015, 5:54 AM edit delete reply
Ice crown is the name of the Iceland that they are in. it is also the land in which the icecrown citadel is.
Dreamfox 10th May 2013, 5:06 AM edit delete reply
My my my. A few more plot twists and I have to start keeping notes and draw some charts to keep everything in order.
And we don't even know why Kinar sometimes has glowy eyes and turns into a high level druid.

Like ohers I like Koutak less and less, especially as it now looks like that his protective side stems from his guilt rather than love for Kinar.

Oh, and lets not forget that turning Kinar into a worgen was probably also the starting point of her husband turning into a death knight bend on world domination.

Nicely done.
Amocin 10th May 2013, 5:34 AM edit delete reply
Amocin
Why cant Koutack feel guilty and love his daughter? It seems people are very quick to judge him for an accident, proving why he wouldnt want to own up to it. It's not like any 'just turned' worgen had any control over themselves.
Dreamfox 11th May 2013, 2:12 AM edit delete reply
True.
I can't help it, but he rubs me the wrong way right now. I also don't mind if my opinion changes again in the future. It's something that keeps a story interesting, especially as you show us more and more details.

It was the same back with Babylon 5, especially Londo and G'kar. The way they changed as the series went on.

also.....ANDERS CAN TALK!?!?
setrakakan 10th May 2013, 6:22 AM edit delete reply
I find myself liking Anders less now.

Remembering back to the campfire scene where he... interrupted seems a bit more rape'y now...
CornellAKABluCrescentMoon 10th May 2013, 6:24 AM edit delete reply
Koutack was the one who killed Kinar's family?! And Anders can talk, too?! Ooh, Kinar's gonna flip if she finds out!
Deme 10th May 2013, 8:35 AM edit delete reply
Actually, as per the comic and above comments from Amocin, Koutack (Kinar's father) was the one who infected Kinar, which led to her killing her family. It is /not/ said that Koutack did the killing himself, or that either of them were in control of their actions while feral.

And to me, Anders definitely seems both jealous of Serid, and possessive (in a bad way) of Kinar.
Guest 10th May 2013, 11:55 AM edit delete reply
Anders was practically with her from the start and sees Kinar as a treasured friend or family member by this point which is understandable when you think about it. the possessiveness is due partly to the fact he's reluctant to let her have another person 'taking her'

Seems to me like, even though Amo's in a bad mood, she's fighting to help keep Kinar and Serid's relationship going. And I agree with an earlier post about Anders. It does seem more rape-y than anything else.

Josh.C 10th May 2013, 10:54 AM edit delete reply
It's actually an interesting thing about Amo.

The way she acquires everyone's secrets, you'd think she'd be a spy or something. But you consider what she knows and how she uses it, she more or less uses them for her entertainment, leverage or to get certain outcome out of people.
Meow 10th May 2013, 11:27 AM edit delete reply
http://druids.thecomicseries.com/cast/

Unlike other dragons, Anders does not speak, though he seems to understand what others are saying clearly and can follow more complex commands then a domesticated pet.

Now he speaks.
Guest 10th May 2013, 12:39 PM edit delete reply
"Does not speak" this does not mean "can not speak". Never once has amo said Anders can't speak. Just that he chooses not to.

Guest 10th May 2013, 4:34 PM edit delete reply
Does not speak.

Doesn't mean can not speak.
Amocin 10th May 2013, 6:41 PM edit delete reply
Amocin
As the other person has already stated. "Does not speak" doesn't mean the same as "can not speak"

Also sometimes I make the bio's misleading to prevent spoilers. For example, Drogans species was listed as "Tauren" up until in comic it was reviled that he was a red dragon. But it did have clues in the bio, such as his hate for Orcs.
Chazara 14th May 2013, 7:08 AM edit delete reply
Hold up... When was it reviled that Drogan was a Red Drake? I reread quite a bit of the story after the gang met him and the only thing close to saying he was a dragon was the massive footprints he left in the snow.

I confess that I was somewhat surprised, as it mounts do not speak!
My cloud serpent spoke to me not...yet!^^
But what leaves me with fears, is the fact of this being a secret that only love seems to know (there should be a good story behind this), and that Anders is somewhat hostile to the presence of Koutak and envious of the relationship of Kinar and Serid!
A beautiful surprise Amocin! Very good job!!!!

I can only wonder what Kinar would do if she found out Anders was actually fully intelligent and could speak. But I bet she'll go postal on his tail when she finds out. Seeing how Anders got in their way that one night and mounted her when she was having fun with her teacher.
Mort 13th May 2013, 5:59 PM edit delete reply
When I was replying to Zach Cloud's question about Anders above, I thought that too. But then I started thinking back to the "Out in the Open" comic (#31)... and there's something about the look she's giving Anders in the upper right panel (and her comment) that makes me wonder just how much she knows/suspects about Anders. Like many others here, I'm very curious what'll pan out from this little love triangle.
Raska 13th May 2013, 5:41 PM edit delete reply
Great twist! I was a little distracted by how Amo uses "I am" instead of "I'm", even though some of her dialogue would sound better using the contraction...but that's just the language-geek in me. XD
